A Ton of Anime News Dropped Over the Festive Season
The winter break present a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and employing patience techniques to refrain from arguing with family members. Hopefully you managed to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy developments came out over the holidays, and should you didn't see a few, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Truly the most surprising revelation, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter further production. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which is seen as a positive development. However, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it still retained the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been going on for a while, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season
Right after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has yet to be revealed.
