Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were halted because of an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, considerable delays are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the latest information on their booked journeys," the statement added.

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their trip before departing to the hub as backlogs are worked through.
