Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Winning Performance at Athlos Meet in New York
The athlete recorded her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson concluded her 800m campaign with a win at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.
{The reigning Olympic champion, who earned third place at the World Championships recently, dominated an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a muscle issue.
Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I've barely raced this year so it was likely easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.
"The environment out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive meet packed the stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was present to present the victors with their tiaras.
Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.
The competition also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the sprint double.
