Patriots Match Longest Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Over Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five TDs during the current campaign
The New England Patriots matched their longest winning run from the Tom Brady period as they overcame AFC East rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the New England squad secured an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since star signal-caller Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
QB Drake Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph bolsters the New England's lead at the summit of the division as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the New England responded in the second quarter as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"It was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," Maye commented on Henderson. "He desires to be excellent."
Fields found John Metchie toward the end of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales converted a two field goals in the final period as the home side sealed the victory
